Global Scholars Program
- What does it mean to be a global citizen?
- How do issues that affect your community influence the rest of the world?
- How can you gain an immersive global experience that is integrated with your education?
The Global Scholars Program brings together UW Bothell students from diverse backgrounds, particularly first-generation college students, to think through global issues and explore diversity, difference, and identity as central to all global engagements.
I have learned so much from not only my professors but my peers. A diverse set of individuals can create such a dialogue that allows you to explore yourself and others on what it means to be a global citizen and understand others better, regardless if they hold a different perspective than you.

Global Scholars is a year-long, cohort style community that brings together students and professors for genuine and thought provoking dialogue. We engage in critical reflection and exploration and create a space to share ideas, experiences, and opinions about topics everyone thinks about but hardly anyone talks about.
Global Scholars take two classes together – BIS 318 in Spring and BIS 418 in Autumn – and receive individualized support to pursue a global experience – study abroad program, virtual internship and/or domestic opportunity with a global focus – during the summer. Global Scholars gave me a space to share my experiences with a group of peers and learn from theirs, as well…. It was incredible to see how much we could relate to each other’s experiences despite having all gone to vastly differently places, doing vastly different things. Together we discovered just how universal many topics are despite large distances.
