Types of Programs

There are several types of programs and exchanges with varying lengths and objectives that are designed to meet the diverse interests of students. Most UW Bothell student choose one of the following options:

UW Faculty Led Programs

These programs are led and taught by UW professors, and align seamlessly with the UW’s academic calendar.

Short-Term Programs

One- to two-week opportunities that are part of a UW course or a special program.

Early Fall Exploration Seminars

Three- to four-week trips led by UW faculty during the gap period between Summer Term B and Autumn Quarter.

Summer Term A or B

Four- to five-week trips led by UW faculty during Summer Term A or B.

Term-long Programs

Summer or quarter long programs, mostly taught in English, led by UW faculty. Dates correspond with UW term dates.

Partner Programs

These program options are not organized by the UW and may not sync up ideally with the UW academic calendar, but they are approved for UW students and guarantee UW credits, as well as financial aid eligibility.

University Exchanges

UW students attend regular classes at one of over 70 partner institutions abroad. Instruction is generally in the host country language but some do offer courses in English. Affiliated Programs

Study abroad providers, such as CIEE and SIT, foreign language schools abroad, as well as many smaller organizations, offer summer and term-long programs, usually on the semester system, that are open to international students from around the world. Learn more about Affiliated Programs here.

Internships

A great option for students who want to integrate academic credit with employment and development of professional skills. Offered in-person or online. Search for available internship opportunities here.
