Background
Dr. Mourad holds a joint Professorship in Engineering and Mathematics at UW Bothell and in Neurological Surgery at UW Seattle, where he also has a laboratory. Dr. Mourad’s research application of ultrasound to clinically relevant problems in collaboration with medical doctors. With regard to pedagogy, Dr. Mourad leads, for example, the year-long Senior ME Capstone Experience out of his Alliance for Device Innovation (A4DI), with a focus on cross-disciplinary projects of interest to campus and the local community. Projects within the A4DI, including Capstone, involve by design students from many disciplines, and from Freshman through Seniors.
Research
His research interests include: ultrasound-based medical device invention, and development and commercialization, including use of 3D printing. Dr. Mourad specializes in bringing physics – diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound – to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases or disorders in a way that improves clinical outcome. His experience varies from in vitro studies to pre-clinical trials that he has developed or helped develop.
