Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities [INRO] Program
Deadline: October
The INRO program seeks students interested in conducting research in allergy, immunology, or infectious diseases. Only those students actively pursuing a research training position at NIAID will be selected for research training, graduate partnerships program, and summer internships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are full time students in good academic standing.

MediCareSupplementalInsurance.com Therapy Professional Scholarship

Deadline: December
$1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who demonstrates interest in physical, massage, recreational, or occupational therapy or psychology professions and is interested in attending a related program, undergraduate, graduate, or training program at an institution within the United States. Applicants must be U.S citizens or other visa status with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Public Health Community Scholarship

Deadline: January $2,500 in funding for Public Health students. Public Health Workers, Nurses, Physicians, Social Workers, Community Leaders are encouraged to apply.

Morris K. and Stewart L. Udall Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship

Deadline: January

Up to $5000 to sophomore and junior students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. UW Internal application required. Applicants must be US citizens, or permanent residents with a 3.0 GPA.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship
Deadline: February

The NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers competitive scholarships of up to $20,000 to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral and social science health-related research. In return, recipients are obligated to serve as paid employees in NIH research laboratories during the summer and 1 year full time pay employment after graduation. Applicants must be U.S citizens or permanent residents with at least a 3.5 GPA.

Beta Sigma Phi Health Field Memorial Scholarship
Deadline: March
$650 scholarship to a resident of Cowlitz or Wahkiakum counties who is pursuing an education in a health field. Applicants must be a resident of Cowlitz or Wahkiakum counties, or be attending school in Cowlitz or Wahkiakum counties. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Non-residents may apply if attended school in Cowlitz or Wahkiakum counties.

Campus Safety Health & Environmental Management Association Scholarship
Deadline: March

$2,000 scholarship is available to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in public health, biochemistry, nursing, medicine, occupational health, environmental health, safety or related disciplines. Students must be enrolled full-time and have one or more years of school remaining as well as a 2.5 minimum GPA. Recipients also receive and invitation to attend the CSHEMA annual conference where registration, hotel, and airfare are included.

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship
Deadline: March
Three thousand $1,000 scholarships funded by Boeing, Microsoft and Washington State Legislature to help students earn their first bachelor’s degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and health care. Applicants must be low- and middle-income Washington State residents enrolled full-time with a minimum GPA of 2.75.

Farmworker College Scholarship
Deadline: April
Sea Mar Community Health Centers is awarding $1,000 scholarships to students in Washington who are of migrant or seasonal farm worker backgrounds. Students must work or worked as a farmworker in the United States, OR have a parent/legal guardian who is or has worked as a farmworker in the United States, has not previously received the Sea Mar Farm Worker Scholarship and be a Washington state resident. HB 1079 students are eligible.

American Public Health Association
Deadline: April

The APHA offers the annual Get Ready Scholarship for $500 plus one year membership, to raise awareness about emergency preparedness. The scholarship is a component of APHA’s Get Ready campaign, which works to help Americans prepare themselves, their families and their communities for all disasters and hazards, including pandemic flu, infectious disease, natural disasters and other emergencies.

Indian Health Services Scholarship Programs
Deadline: April
Financial assistance for American Indian and Alaska Native (federally or state-recognized) students preparing for entry into health professional schools. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application, with documentation of American Indian/Alaska Native affiliation.

James Rhio O’Conner Memorial Scholarship Fund
Deadline: May
Up to $5000 in an essay contest about what they would do if they faced the same challenges that Rhio faced given a dire cancer prognosis, such as what types of treatments they would consider. Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age. Only one essay per student is allowed.

Tylenol Scholarship
Deadline: June

Up to $10,000 in aid for students who demonstrate leadership in community activities, school activities and who intend to major in areas that will lead to careers in health-related fields. Applicants will be judged on leadership qualities and academic performance. Students must be U.S citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must have completed one year of undergraduate study and must have one or more years of school remaining.

Western Association of Food and Drug Officials J. Jos Campioni Scholarship
Deadline: June
$2,000 in funding for students pursuing a career in health fields. Applicants must have be juniors or seniors and be pursuing education in the following career fields; environmental health, food science, pharmacology, cosmetics or medical devices.

Post Graduate Opportunities

Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program
Deadline: January
The Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program is an 11-week program that brings rising college seniors and recent college graduates to Washington, D.C., where they are placed in congressional offices and learn about health policy issues, with a focus on issues affecting racial and ethnic minority and underserved communities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who will be seniors or a recent graduates. Graduate and professional degree students as well as individuals with advanced degrees are not eligible to apply. Applicants are encouraged to show evidence of academic achievement and a strong interest in and/or experience working in or with health issues disproportionately affecting racial and ethnic minorities or underserved communities, this may include previous academic work. They will receive a stipend upon successful completion of the program. Scholars receive approximately $7,500 in support including, daily expense allowance for meals and local transportation, transportation to and from Washington, D.C., and lodging for the summer at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

The Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice

One year fellowship designed to develop a network of young leaders who have a passion for health care justice. Fellows will start in August of 2016 and spend a year working for Families in Washington, DC. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Fellow will work in a health policy department and, through writing, research and outreach, assists our organization’s efforts to improve access to health coverage for all Americans. Selected fellow will work in Washington D.C, receive an annual salary of $38,000 including health care benefits.

The Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice
Deadline: February
One Year Fellowship designed to advance social justice through health care advocacy work by focusing on the unique challenges facing many low-income and minority communities. Fellowship is designed to increase the number of low-income, American Indian & Alaska Native, Asian American, Black/African American, Latino, and Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander social justice leaders. Fellows will start in August of 2016 and spend a year working for Families in Washington, DC. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. The Wellstone Fellow’s primary responsibilities include performing research into health policy and developing content that promotes the reduction and elimination of disparities in health care. Selected fellow will work in Washington D.C, receive an annual salary of $38,000 including health care benefits.
