GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The David E. Lumley Young Scientist Scholarship for Energy and Environmental Science
Deadline: August
$1,000 scholarship for undergraduate students. Its purpose is to inspire work on problems of global importance in both the energy and environmental sectors of industry and academia. Recipients will become student members of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and receive an AGU travel grant of $500 to attend the AGU Fall Meeting.

The David S. Miller Young Scientist Scholarship for Study in the Geo-Environmental Sciences and Geo-Environmental Engineering
Deadline: August
Scholarship intended to encourage undergraduate and graduate student’s interested in fields related to earth sciences. Recipients are students who seek to build their own philosophy around science education. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4 and must have completed at least four full semesters of study, financial need and documented interest in a career in geo-environmental sciences or geo-environmental engineering.

Morris K. and Stewart L. Udall Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship
Deadline: November
Eighty scholarships of up to $5,000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 to students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents with at least a B average.

Annie’s Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship
Deadline: January

Annie’s scholarship program assists undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in sustainable and organic agriculture. Every year they award scholarships of varying amounts to students through their Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship program. Applicants must be focusing their studies on sustainable agriculture. International students are welcome to apply.

Pacific Region of National Garden Clubs, INC
Deadline: January
Two $1,000 scholarships are available for fulltime students in their junior or senior year of college, or in graduate school pursuing a Master’s Degree. Applicants must major in: conservation, forestry, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning, alternative energy or related subjects. Applicants must have at least a 3.25 GPA and be US Citizens or Permanent Residents.

NEHA/AAS Scholarship Awards
Deadline: February NEHA / AAS Scholarship is available to applicants pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health or Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Health Sciences. One $2,000 award to a graduate and three $1,000 awards to the undergraduates. Undergraduate applicants must have at least one full year, of coursework remaining to be eligible. Graduate applicants must have at least one semester, of coursework, remaining. Scholarship is awarded for one academic year and renewal applications are considered and reviewed as new applications.

Asian Pacific Islander Organization Natural Resources Conservation Service Scholarships
Deadline: April

Three scholarships available, one each in the amounts of $1,000, $1,500, and $2,000 to deserving Asian or Pacific Islander students. In addition to funding this award introduces students to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and encourage them to consider NRCS as a potential employer. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, career goals, personal strengths, leadership abilities, and work experiences. Applicants must also be US citizens.

Woodinville Garden Club
Deadline: April

Scholarships available ranging from $1,000-$2,800. All applicants must be Washington state residents and pursuing further education in horticulture, botany, landscape design, floral design, or environment studies.

National Garden Clubs
Deadline: May National Garden Club gives 32 scholarships of $3,500 each. Scholarship program offers this aid to students majoring in fields related to horticulture and the environment. Applicants must be planning a career related to gardening, landscape design, environmental issues, or horticulture. Applicants must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents with at least a 3.5 GPA.

David Evans and Associates, Inc. Scholarships for Women and Minorities

Deadline: May $3,000 in funding to assist the recipients pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geomatics and environmental issues. Applicants must be enrolled in courses related to achieving a civil engineering or Surveying/Geomatics bachelor’s degree, a woman and/or a minority with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The Brower Youth Award
Deadline: May
Six awards are given annually to young environmentalists, ages 13-22, attempting to make a difference in the world through sustainable projects and innovative ideas. Recipients of the award will receive $3,000 cash prize, a professionally produced short film about their work from an Emmy award winning film crew, flight and lodging accommodations for a week-long trip to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Washington Trail Blazers Scholarship

Deadline: May
$1,000 in funding for students seeking careers that enhance the management of wilderness, natural resources and fisheries science in Washington State’s mountains. Preference will be given to students who work or plan to work in Washington’s high country.

FELLOWSHIPS AND INTERNSHIPS

Climate Corps Fellowship
Deadline: January
Paid Fellowship of $1,250 per week. Fellow work directly with staff from operations, finance, and sustainability departments on a wide range of innovative projects. They will also be reimbursed for travel expenses to trainings, and the annual EDF Climate Corps network event. Applicants must be current or recent graduate students studying engineering, business, sustainability, environmental management, public policy or relevant degree with 2+ years of applicable work experience, and eligible to work in the US.

Department of Energy Scholars Internship Program
Deadline: January

Internship experience, stipends of up to $650 per week, and travel arrangements available for students interested in exploring a federal career with Department of Energy. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who will be seniors or a recent graduates.

Environmental Defense Fund
Deadline: Varies
Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) offers internships and fellowships for students and recent graduates in a variety of programs and departments throughout the organization. Fellowships and Internships vary from year to year and can include legislative work on Capitol Hill, working at prestigious environmental companies, to direct fieldwork with endangered species. Deadlines, awards and requirements vary with each position.

US State Department Fellowships
Deadline: Varies
The Department manages several student employment programs that enable students to get experience in a foreign affairs environment through on-the-job experience. Some students work in Washington, DC, and others have the opportunity to work at an embassy overseas. Paid and unpaid positions with many available during spring, summer, or fall. Applicants must be US Citizens.

Environment America Environmental Fellowships
Deadline: Rolling Application
$24,500 salary for the 1st year, $26,000 for the second year of work. Through this fellowship program, students will develop basic experience on clean energy and work to carry out our strategies for winning positive policy change. Applicants must be recent college graduates, ready to commit their to grassroots political actions on behalf of the environment. Applicants must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents.
