Rachel Foote, Jennifer Keene, and Lisa Olason receive IAS Staff Recognition Awards
IAS staff are talented and valuable individuals, often performing work behind the scenes to keep the school functioning and to enable exceptional impact. In February, IAS established staff recognition awards to honor staff members for their extraordinary service, skillful leadership, completing special projects, significant dedication, or other outstanding achievements. IAS staff members Rachel Foote, Jennifer Keene, and Lisa Olason are the first recipients of these awards.

Kaylee Galloway announces candidacy for Whatcom County Council
Alum Kaylee Galloway has announced her campaign for Whatcom County Council District 1, which includes Downtown Bellingham, Western Washington University, and Fairhaven. Galloway currently serves as a legislative aide for State Representative Debra Lekanoff. Previously, she served as Community Liaison for Congresswoman Suzan DelBene in Whatcom and Skagit Counties and as a Staff Assistant for Senator Maria Cantwell in Washington, D.C.

Mateó B. Ochoa: An unexpected shift from global travel to community arts organizing
Last November, Master of Arts in Cultural Studies alum Mateó B. Ochoa joined Sundance Institute as their Senior Manager of Community Programs. In this role, Ochoa amplifies the creative works of local theater artists and filmmakers through live and digital public programs throughout the State of Utah. Perhaps best known for its annual film festival, Sundance Institute is a leader in discovering and supporting independent artists, and its reach is worldwide. It’s a place that suits Ochoa’s commitment to elevating other artists — and a place they did not expect to find themself one year ago.

Erin Kerrigan: From serving food to serving families
IAS alum Erin Kerrigan (’11) served as a waitress for more than a decade before she enrolled at UW Bothell. She got a job at the Career Center and says that job helped her find her current path. The Global Studies graduate now works as a community engagement manager for the Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families.

Celebrate National Poetry Month
In honor of National Poetry Month, enjoy works by IAS alumni G. Fox, Stephanie Segura, and Kristine Jeanyoung Kim, featured in past editions of Clamor, UW Bothell’s literary and arts journal. Anida Yoeu Ali exhibits in Fragilità with support of The Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur
IAS faculty member Anida Yoeu Ali was selected as one of four Southeast Asian artists to exhibit alongside Italian artists in an immersive online group exhibition titled "Fragilità." “Fragilità” is curated by Alberto Salvadori, director of Fondazione ICA Milano, Luigi Fassi, director of MAN in Nuoro, and Lim Wei Ling, director of the Wei Ling Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, and it is organized with the support of the Italian Embassy in Malaysia. “Fragilità” began on Instagram channel @particle____ from March 3-10, 2021 with platform access and public program found on the Fragilità website.

Ching-In Chen publishes in The Rupture
IAS faculty member Ching-In Chen’s hybrid pieces “Gatha for Forest Walk / When No Father Arrives,” “Desert / Nine Days,” and “Park” were published in The Rupture, a bimonthly publication of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction.

Anida Yoeu Ali exhibits at MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai
IAS faculty member Anida Yoeu Ali exhibited prints from The Buddhist Bug series at MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai, Thailand from Nov 14, 2020 - March 30, 2021. The photographs were part of a final touring exhibition titled “A Beast, A God and A Line” originally curated by Hong Kong based curator Cosmin Costinas.
