IAS faculty win Simpson Center Awards

IAS faculty member Naomi Macalalad Bragin won a first book fellowship to work on her manuscript Black Power of Hip Hop Dance: On Kinethic Politics. IAS faculty member Shannon Cram won a first book fellowship to work on her manuscript Unmaking the Bomb: Environmental Cleanup and the Politics of Impossibility. IAS faculty member Amaranth Borsuk is the faculty lead for a summer reading group on Decolonizing the MFA. IAS faculty member Lauren Berliner will participate in a summer reading group on Speculative Futurities from the Margins led by Regina Yung Lee. IAS faculty member Anida Yoeu Ali will participate in a summer reading group on Transnational Asian Women led by LeiLani Nishime.

IAS faculty member Jin-Kyu Jung, along with his collaborator Nora Kenworthy (School of Nursing and Health Studies), received the Digital Humanities Summer Fellowships, supporting for their work on Unmapping and remaking digital health data: Creative strategies for disrupting narrative and affect in the crowdfunding ecosystem. Considering social and geospatial inequities in the surge of covid-19 crowdfunding, the project develops a public-facing, interactive digital interface to engage with publics in collectively reimagining what alternative crowdfunding data, representation, and visualization could look like, beyond the ontological and algorithmic limits of the current GoFundMe platform.
