Career resources for international students
Welcome! UW Bothell is a rich international community and is proud to have international students living, working, and pursuing academics on our campus. Career Services is here to support international students seeking professional development opportunities such as internships and employment.
First steps
If interested in building internship and job experience in the US, all international students should:
- Visit the UW Bothell International Student Services (ISS) website for information including Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). Check out the ISS events calendar for CPT and OPT workshops.
- Know what you have to offer employers (relevant skills and strengths) and articulate your value effectively in your resumes, cover letters and interviews. Make an appointment with Career Services to review your application materials.
- Establish a variety of career plans, which could include conducting a strategic job search for opportunities in the US and in your home country.
- Utilize a variety of resources, including those listed below.
Job search and information resources
- UW Bothell International Student Services (ISS): information on advising, employment, scholarships and other valuable campus resources.
- Career Services events: Check out information on upcoming career fairs and employer events and review past workshops, including the videos and PowerPoint slides specific to international students.
- GoinGlobal: U.S. and international access to career guides, conduct job & internship searches, and H-1B visa applications by location, occupation and company name to identify employers seeking to hire international professionals.
- Major and career information: Use “What Can I Do with This Major” and WOIS, the Washington Occupation Information System, to explore different career paths.
- Various H-1B Visa Employer sites, FAQs, reports and other visa information: MyVisaJobs.com, Immihelp.com, and Visadoor.com
- Overseasjobs.com: features overseas jobs and international employment opportunities for professionals, expatriates and adventure seekers
- FIUTS: Career programming, social support, networking opportunities and more
- Legal Services: If in need of legal services, please seek advice/counsel from credible immigration and legal resources. It is not advised to take legal advice from online resources, blogs, friends and family members.
- UW Bothell Campus Library’s ESL and International Student Guide provides helpful academic, language, and other resource guides.
- This video provides strategies and resources for international students to search for jobs and internships. To view this video please log in using your UW Google credentials.
