There are many ways that we can consult with you to customize to your coursework. These include:

If you are interested in a class presentation, please submit a request via our Faculty & Staff Workshop Request Form.

We try our best to accommodate all requests which are based on staff availability. It is best to get your request in before or early in the quarter. A member of our staff will follow up with you within a week to confirm details of your presentation.

Integrate Career Services into the curriculum

Introductory and capstone courses are two examples of how some schools and programs have integrated Career Services into their coursework to support students’ career success.

Ideas for course syllabus or department website

Career topic assignments

  • Include a reflection piece at the end of one or more assignments, with prompts such as:
    • What skills did you use while completing this assignment?
    • What is one way the content of this assignment might be helpful in a work context?
  • Instead of, or in addition to, the more traditional forms of communicating learning, have students:
    • Submit their work in the form of a memo, executive summary, press release, abstract, policy brief, professional letter, or grant application.
    • Prepare an elevator speech to practice at a career fair or write a cover letter for a position they find interesting.
  • Have students participate in a career conversation with someone in their field of interest or with another professor and present/report on the experience.
  • Assign students to conduct occupational research.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is an on-demand video learning platform. With over 16,000 videos and new ones being added weekly, there is a lot of quality content available. Free access to LinkedIn Learning is provided to all UW students, staff, and faculty by the Student Technology Fee.

Ideas for in-class activities

  • Invite a Career Services staff member to come and speak.
    • 5-15 minutes – to introduce Career Services and announce specific events
    • 30-90 minutes – to facilitate a workshop (resume reviews or mock interviews) on a topic of your choice, tailored to your discipline
  • Invite an alum from your department to speak about their career and to give career-related tips to students, or invite several alumni and have a panel discussion.
  • Have students practice their elevator speech outlining the skills learned and acquired in their coursework.

We partner with the academic programs to enhance the educational experience of UWB students-identifying internship resources, providing career advising and resume development assistance.

On-campus jobs and internships should be posted on HuskyHires following the instructions provided by OE/HR.

Off-campus jobs should be posted on Handshake.

Career conversations with students toolkit

As staff, advisers and faculty, students often turn to us for career and professional development advice. Many of these conversations focus on how to make informed decisions for the future. While we encourage colleagues to refer students to Career Services to customize support resources based on the student’s needs, this career conversations toolkit provides resources to share and weave into career conversations.
