Lauren Berliner and students host interactive documentary gaming event

IAS hosts “Mentor Chat” with Deborah Oaks
IAS hosted its first “Mentor Chat” in January with alum Deborah Oaks (Science, Technology and the Environment, '08). Mentor Chats assist students with career exploration and networking by providing opportunities to dialogue with IAS alum and community partners working across diverse roles and sectors.

IAS faculty members and students participate in UW Ferguson and Beyond teach-in
Several IAS faculty and students participated in the UW-wide teach-in, “Ferguson and Beyond: Race, State Violence, and Activist Agendas for the 21st Century,” which was written up in the Seattle Times. IAS faculty members Dan Berger and Scott Kurashige presented on the panel "The Past is Always Present: Contextualizing US State Violence," and Wadiya Udell moderated the panel "#Blacklivesmatter: A Universal Call for Social Justice."

IAS student Zoe Wong publishes in The International Examiner
IAS student Zoe Wong published an article, "Standardized tests: Asian parents need to be part of the solution," in The International Examiner. Wong reported and wrote the story as part of IAS faculty member Kristin Gustafson's Introduction to Journalism course. ...

Amaranth Borsuk receives Club Advisor of the Year award
At the Club Council Recognition Banquet this month, Amaranth Borsuk received the Club Advisor of the Year award for her work with students on Clamor, UWB's undergraduate Literary and Arts journal. Asked about the award, Amaranth replied: "Working with students on Clamor this year has been a great gift. We've had an exceptional board of editors who are passionate about the work they want to see in the world. I am grateful to them for nominating me and to Club Council for this recognition of all the labor and the love that goes into Clamor."
