Brittaney Bunjong recognized as “Cook 2 Follow” in AllRecipes Magazine
Congratulations to alum Brittaney Bunjong (’16, Media & Communication Studies), on being featured as a “Cook 2 Follow” in the Summer edition of Allrecipes Magazine. Brittaney says, “"It's crazy, when I go to the grocery store I can pick up the Allrecipes Magazine and see MY face sharing what I love. Finding your passion is the root to success. When you do what you love, doors will open. I'm a strong believer in going to your highest potential." Brittaney also appears on Allrecipes website, the world’s largest online food community with up to 55 million cook visits per month.

Amaranth Borsuk is featured in UW 360 segment on modern poetry and publishes new work
IAS faculty member Amaranth Borsuk was featured this spring in a Columns article on the state of poetry at UW. The piece, written by IAS alum Quinn Russell Brown, sparked the interest of producers at UW360, who interviewed her about the role of technology and collaboration in her work. Borsuk's digitally-mediated projects include Abra, a free app for iPhone and iPad that invites readers to mutate text with their fingertips, Whispering Galleries, a LeapMotion work which uses the reader's hand gestures to reveal poems hidden within diary entries, and Between Page and Screen, a book of augmented reality poems that only exist in the virtual space opened up by the reader. ...

Interdisciplinary Arts major Lingling Yuan receives President’s Medal
Lingling Yuan received the President’s Medal at the 2017 University of Washington Commencement on June 13. This award recognizes the graduating senior with the most distinguished academic record. Yuan, originally from Xiamen, China, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Arts. Despite her academic achievement, Yuan’s focus was on learning to express herself through art, rather than focus on grades. Yuan hopes to enter the K-8 certification program at UW Bothell and become a teacher. “I feel early education is really important,” she said. “That’s why I hope to work with kids.” Learn more about Yuan’s story in the video below, and hear from two of her professors, Kevin Kim and Ted Hiebert:

After the MFA: Catching up with Colin McArthur
By Kaitlin C. Young ('16) Shortly after he received his MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics, I ran into Colin (’15) at a reading at Folio, a private library in downtown Seattle. I remembered hearing him read pieces of his thesis—a beautifully written and ambitious start to a novel— at the MFA Salons. Around the same time Colin was reading at those salons, Seattle City of Literature was in the news for two reasons.

Gracelynn Shibayama finds her bliss in community radio
Gracelynn Shibayama graduated from UW Bothell with a degree in Media & Communication Studies in 2015. She found her passion in community media shortly after starting at UW Bothell in 2013. UWave Radio was new and opened many doors for her. During her two years, Gracelynn worked her way up the ladder from Promotions Manager to Station Manager by the time she graduated. Drue Nyenhuis focuses career on affecting community change
Drue Nyenhuis ('12) majored in Global Studies and Society, Ethics & Human Behavior and minored in Human Rights and Policy Studies at UW Bothell. These IAS programs have helped guide Drue's career toward one of community engagement and public service. Vy Nguyen (’12, Policy Studies) was appointed appointment as legislative aide to Seattle Councilmember Lorena González, where she will serve as policy lead on immigrant and refugee affairs, housing, homelessness, and education. Joe Shelley (’04, Global Studies), UW Bothell’s Assistant Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, has accepted an offer to become Vice President for Libraries and Information Technology at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. Ben Wiselogle (’12, Global Studies) began a new position as a Foreign Affairs Officer with U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. We wish you all the best!
