IAS faculty members share insights into online international collaborations
Several IAS faculty members shared insights regarding online, international collaborations at the International Virtual Exchange Conference in Tacoma in late October. Ron Krabill led a workshop that addressed the ethics of virtual exchanges and study abroad programs, respectively. He also facilitated a panel discussion coordinate by Min Tang, together with Salwa Al-Noori (School of STEM) and Mo West (School of Nursing and Health Sciences), regarding UW Bothell’s cohort-based learning community on collaborative online international learning (COIL). Ursula Valdez led an “action lab” where she engaged participants to discuss best practices in designing assignments for virtual exchange courses, and David Goldstein shared solutions to common logistical problems, such as time zone differences and class size differentials in paired, virtual exchange courses. Natalia Dyba, Director of Global Initiatives at UW Bothell, co-led the conference planning committee and served as the principal master of ceremonies.
