Jack Peirson
Audit Manager at Deloitte
Deloitte
I grew up in Minnesota and moved back post-college to be close to family and friends while starting my career at Deloitte in Minneapolis. I served a variety of clients in the travel and entertainment, retail, manufacturing and utilities industries. As I entered the third year of my career, I was looking to stretch my comfort zone and so in March, 2020 I moved to Seattle, WA. I kept my position with Deloitte (Audit Senior at this point) and joined a client engagement team serving one of the top five largest market cap companies in the world. Since joining the team, I have led efforts in statutory compliance, centralized coordination of global audit requirements for 250+ statutory entities, as well as taking lead on continuous improvement initiatives as a trusted business advisor for the client in order to identify as many efficiencies and process improvements as possible on a global scale. Moving to an unfamiliar city in March of 2020 had its challenges (i.e. meeting friends and coworkers during a global pandemic), but in the end – I genuinely believe that moving to Seattle, WA is the best decision I have made personally and professionally. I am the person I am today because of the ups-and-downs and experiences I have endured – to which I credit the challenging times as the most beneficial to my development.

Jack on mentorship
I believe the opportunity to be a mentor is the ultimate way to give back to students eager to learn. I remember when I was in their shoes not that long ago and there is something to be said about learning from people who have been through similar experiences rather than reading things from a textbook. I have had many influential mentors in my career and I strongly believe they can be attributed with successes I have had to date. I know I have a lot left to learn in life and continue to pursue each day with an open mindset, but if there are life lessons I can pass along from my working experience to date, then I am excited about that opportunity. I am a strong believer that we can learn far more from our mistakes than our triumphs, but our mindset must be in the right place in order to harness the full impact of the underlying life lessons within shortcomings.

How to Win Friends and Influence People – This book has stood the test of time and has left a lasting impact on generations over and over again. I was actually talking to my dad and grandma over the holidays a few years back about this amazing book I read with several profound lessons on how to interact with others in a business and life context. They both informed me they read the same book by Dale Carnegie when they were a young professional.
