Sharmila K. Swenson serves as Vice President of Public Affairs and Social Impact for Symetra Life Insurance Company, a national provider of employee benefits, annuities and life insurance. In her capacity as VP, Swenson oversees public affairs at the local, state and federal level, community relations, corporate giving, employee community engagement and corporate social responsibility.

Swenson joined Symetra in 2019. Her prior experience includes over 20 years of work in Washington D.C. and throughout the Puget Sound region in the private, public and non-profit arenas with a focus on Energy, Education, Labor, Transportation and Economic Development.

Swenson is deeply committed to supporting access and inclusion through education and economic opportunities for underserved populations through her work in the community. In 2021 she was appointed to the National Association of College Trustees – Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee and is on the Board of Trustees at Highline College. She also currently serves on the executive boards of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Treehouse, an education non-profit serving foster youth in Washington state. Swenson is a Washington native and holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Washington.
