Comprehensive Prevention
Our team has been successfully implementing many of the prevention requirements of the Campus Program prior to obtaining the grant. We have set our own Comprehensive Prevention goals beyond the minimum obligations outlined by the federal government.
Goals for Comprehensive Prevention
By the end of year 1 of the OVW grant, we will have a strong map and understanding of existing prevention programming, gaps, and strengths.
By the end of year 2, we will have used the results of our evaluation of prevention training to improve the quality of our programming, particularly centering improving effectiveness for LGBTQIA+ students, students of color, international students, and students with disabilities, and increase men’s participation in prevention and response programming.
By the end of year 3, we will have increased the reach of our programming to include faculty and staff, key social influencers among students, and invite them to participate in a comprehensive approach to prevention education.
Key activies accomplished
- Cascadia College launched Get Inclusive, the first online course about sex- and gender-based violence for incoming students.
- Used evaluation data to update “Creating a Violence Free UWB” workshop. Aligned the workshop with the Husky Prevention & Response (HPR) course. Evaluation is ongoing and embedded into programming.
- HPR is being evaluated and has a robust tracking and reporting system.
- Reviewed prevention programs according to Clery requirements and updated Clery description of programs.
- Developed a bystander training workshop for student employees, RISE. Implementation and evaluation to begin in fall 2023.
- Hired a Prevention & Education Coordinator position to focus on education at Cascadia.
- The VPA reached 420 students with education and awareness events such as classroom visits, tabling for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and other events.
