Mentorship & Civic Engagement
Students in the Latino Leadership Initiative (LLI) program, assist the Latino Education & Training Institute (LETI) as they work to help people overcome educational obstacles. LETI’s mission is to facilitate the personal and financial success of Spanish-speaking Latino immigrants and low-income individuals so they can pursue their dreams and can become leaders in their communities. Program supervisor Victoria Breckwich Vasquez, affiliate assistant professor and lecturer, leads LLI participants as they gain leadership skills and get access to resources and communal support. In addition, students meet with community leaders who act as mentors. The students become mentors themselves, working with local Latinx high school students.
