Appel’s Paper in Journal of Health & Social Sciences

Dr. Appel, Behavioral Health Director and Lecturer, recently had a peer-reviewed paper accepted in the Journal of Health and Social Sciences. The paper is titled " Eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in behavioral health care in the U.S.". The advance online publication of the article addresses three key issues to eliminate obstacles to care: universal approach, insurance coverage, and diversifying the behavioral health care workforce. This includes individual and systemic barriers in the U.S. Dr. Appel's co-author is Phuoc Nguyen, a former student in her Principles of Health Research course and is currently a medical student at Des Moines Medical College.
