Yasmin Guzman, HS ’20, receives Chancellor’s Medal

Yasmin Guzman, a Health Studies major and Health Education and Promotion minor, has been awarded the Chancellor's Medal for 2020.

We spoke with Yasmin to find out more about this exceptional student.

Q. What does winning the Chancellor's Medal mean to you?

Winning the Chancellor's Medal has brought pride to my family and myself for the immense work, tears, sacrifices, and sleepless nights that have been put into obtaining this degree. I also know this medal is in honor to all my first-generation peers who have succeeded against all adversities.

Q. What are your next steps after graduating?

After graduating, I will be working as a fulltime research assistant for Seattle Children's Research Institute in the Child, Health, and Behavioral Department. I hope to gain work experience within the next year or two and continue a master's degree.

Q. What are some of the things you'll remember most about your time in Health Studies and Health Education and Promotion?

The amount of hands-on experience that was incorporated into the Health Studies and Health Education & Promotion Minor through community-based learning has been by far the greatest and most memorable experiences. From program planning to developing my own social marketing campaign.
