Distinguished Speaker: Amani M. Nuru-Jeter, Ph.D., M.P.H.
Please join us on Tuesday, May 23, at 6:00pm, in Discovery Hall, Room 061, as we welcome Amani M. Nuru-Jeter, PhD, MPH to UW Bothell. Dr. Nuru-Jeter's presentation, "What Is This Thing We Call “Race” and How Does it Get into the Body?" is free and open to the public. Dr. Nuru-Jeter is an Associate Professor of Public Health at UC Berkeley, Principal Investigator of the African American Women's Heart and Health Study and Co-Principal Investigator of the Bay Area Heart Health Study. In this presentation Dr. Nuru-Jeter will examine racial and socio-economic inequalities, and how these social exposures determine life experiences and opportunities differently for different social groups; address how social factors such as “race” serve as the foundation for the creation and preservation of health disparities; how those differences become embodied and impact mental and physical health and well-being.
