Team Guatemala
18 students from School of Nursing & Health Studies and the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, under the leadership of Dr. Mabel Ezeonwu, participated in the NHS study abroad program, Global Health Promotion in Guatemala: Health Services Delivery in Resource-poor Settings. For two weeks, July 9-22, the group worked side-by-side with local health practitioners and Seattle-based NGO, Guatemala Village Health, to experience the challenges of providing care with minimal resources. The course utilized the community as the pedagogical platform and challenged students to view global health care issues holistically in order to understand how in-country health policies are influenced by local and global determinants or factors.
