Alumni Update: Aimee Desrochers, Health Studies
Aimee is currently serving as a Community Health and Malaria Prevention Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo, West Africa. She came to Togo for the first time to study abroad while a student at UWB and was happy to return as a PCV in 2015. The health studies discipline taught her the importance of continuous critical analysis of global health and development to create sustainable and ethical change to improve global health disparities. Many of the projects and classes she took as a student directly relate to on the ground community health work to facilitate community led change. She has been in Togo since June 2015 and is developing projects on community led sanitation, malaria education, HIV/AIDS, youth development, gender equality, and maternal and child health. She works in partnership with the Malaria Action Committee and Monitoring and Evaluation Taskforce to improve data collection in Togo.
