Amaranth Borsuk and Shannon Cram publish in Moss

Amaranth Borsuk and Shannon Cram have work in the latest issue of Moss: a Journal of the Pacific Northwest.

The issue features “Here, in the Plutonium,” an excerpt from Cram’s new book Unmaking the Bomb: Environmental Cleanup and the Politics of Impossibility. In a meditation on an oratorio performed inside the B reactor at the Hanford nuclear site written by Nancy Welliver, an environmental scientist who worked investigating the 650 acres of radioactive waste buried across there, Cram interweaves personal experience with the politics of the Hanford Site, much as Welliver’s libretto interweaves the stories of its waste with the dreams and memories of the site’s workers. Borsuk’s contribution to the issue is an interview with poet and artist Shin Yu Pai, 2023–2024 Civic Poet of Seattle. Their conversation ranges from Pai’s experience in art school in Chicago to her many interactive and community-based projects, to parenting and writing during the pandemic. It also includes images from Pai’s new book Less Desolate, a collection of haiku rendered as poetry comix by Justin Rueff.
