Dan Berger publishes Stayed on Freedom
Dan Berger published a new book, Stayed on Freedom: The Long History of Black Power Through One Family's Journey. The book is a biography of longtime but little-known organizers Zoharah Simmons and Michael Simmons and, through them, a window into six decades of activism. The book has been praised by poet Hanif Abdurraqib as "a triumph of storytelling" and by historian Robin Kelley as "a movement story and a love story all wrapped together." Berger will host local book launch events at Town Hall Seattle on February 1 and, with the Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies, on February 27.
