Jennifer Atkinson gives keynote at American Museum of Natural History and Evergreen College
Jennifer Atkinson gave keynote addresses at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and Evergreen State College in Washington addressing the emotional toll of our climate crisis. In her October lectures, “Beyond climate despair: Navigating an age of crisis and engaging for change,” Atkinson argued that for too long we have focused primarily on the physical reality of climate change and the need for political and practical solutions, while neglecting the inner dimensions that often inhibit us from embracing needed social change. Her lectures outlined the existential toll of environmental destruction on different groups – from scientists and activists to students and BIPOC communities. She also discussed strategies for channeling dark emotions into collective action, and developing the agency and courage to stay engaged in the work ahead.
