Julie Shayne at “Gender and Resistance” book salon
IAS faculty member Julie Shayne participated in a book salon at the Sociologists for Women in Society winter meeting (virtual). Titled “Gender and Resistance,” participants in the salon discussed their books related to this theme. Shayne discussed her newest book, an open-access collection called Persistence is Resistance: Celebrating 50 Years of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies.
In addition to describing their books, panelists dialogued about: how gender theory influenced their book; what intersections informed the book; the place of feminist praxis in the project; methodological decisions, particularly as related to feminist sociology; practices that helped them finish the book (Shayne said her sabbatical!); and the audiences for whom they wrote.
