Hana Abdulrahman named to Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for Students
Hana Abdulrahman, a current Master of Arts in Policy Studies candidate, has been named as the Graduate Student Representative for the 2021-2022 Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for Students (CACS). As a body, CACS represents all students at UW Bothell and collaborates to advise the Chancellor and the executive team on campus-wide issues and major initiatives affecting students.
Hana brings to the MA in Policy Studies and to the graduate representative position an undergraduate degree in Society, Ethics & Human Behavior earned from UW Bothell. She has, therefore, familiarity with the undergraduate as well as graduate student experience on this campus. Through the MA in Policy Studies, she is developing advanced skills in qualitative and quantitative analysis, policy research and ethics, and stakeholder engagement that will serve her well in this role.
Hana also brings strong interests in global economics, social psychology, GIS mapping and urban development and planning. She currently works as the Mini City Hall Coordinator at the City of Bellevue, within the multidisciplinary Community Development department, with responsibility for improving economic, social, and environmental conditions in the city. Her own lived experience and connected learning has led her emphasize building a trustworthy bridge to government services for immigrants and implementing equitable practices of engagement for communities of color, especially Muslim community members.
Hana says, “My educational background and professional experience have taught me that it takes more than interest and work experience to become an effective researcher and collaborator. A network of colleagues and peers with experience and vision is key to success. As an avid student and growing professional in the field, I hope to learn and grow and contribute as part of a team that serves to improve student community, support, and experience.”
