Speech and Debate Team tournament results
Here are the UW Bothell Debate Society results for the final four speach and debate tournaments this academic year:

National Forensics Association National Championship
On April 16-19, UW Bothell Speech and Debate participated in the National Forensic Association National Championship Tournament 2021. This is an invitational tournament which means that our students must participate in Speech and Debate Tournaments over the course of the season which are large enough for qualifying entries and place high enough three times in order to qualify to compete at NFA. Three students from UW Bothell qualified, Omar Fageeri (Business), Prabhat Aluri (STEM) and Luke Scott (IAS).
Congratulations to our competitors! We are proud to announce that UW Bothell performed extremely well. Congratulations to Luke Scott, 3rd Place, Novice After Dinner Speaking. Congratulations to Omar Fageeri for reaching Octofinals in both Impromptu Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking.

American Forensics Association National Tournament
April 3-5, 2021, 67 teams from around the country competed in an invitational tournament. That means that our students must participate in Speech and Debate Tournaments over the course of the season which are large enough for qualifying entries and place high enough three times in order to qualify to compete at the American Forensics Association National Tournament. This is a highly competitive tournament. Overall, UW Bothell Speech and Debate placed 41st in the country.
Congratulations to our competitors, Omar Fageeri (Business) and Prabhat Aluri (STEM). Awards included Quarterfinals in Impromptu Speaking for Omar Fageeri. Omar also competed in Extemporaneous Speaking and Persuasive Speaking. Prabhat competed in Impromptu Speaking.

Novice No More
Northeastern State University and Liberty University hosted a tournament this year exclusively for Novices, students in their first year of college or university competition. Tournaments like this are an exceptional way to celebrate the contributions of students early in their collegiate careers.
UW Bothell sent three students to Novice No More. All three came home with trophies. Their success also resulted in a Second Place Overall Sweepstakes Award for UW Bothell Speech and Debate.
Congratulations to Luke Scott for 2nd Place After Dinner Speaking. Congratulations to Helen Fita, 5th Place Informative Speaking. Omar Fageeri was the Champion in Individual Sweepstakes, also winning 1st Place in Extemporaneous Speaking, 1st Place in Informative Speaking, 5th Place in Persuasive Speaking. Well done team!

Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament
UW Bothell Speech and Debate competed at the Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Speech and Debate Tournament.
79 schools competed with more than 500 students and 1142 individual entries.
Congratulations to all the competitors including UW Bothell competitors: Omar Fageeri, Mia Harris, Julie Badgley, Prabhat Aluri, Helen Fita, Kohl Dybdahl, and Luke Scott.
UW Bothell, with only these 7 competitors, one 16th Place in Combined Team Sweepstakes, counting contributions in speech and debate. This is an exceptional showing.
There were also many individual awards.
In impromptu, Prabhat Aluri won an Excellence Award (top 30% in the country). Omar Fageeri went to Quarterfinals (top 24 in the country).
In Interviewing, Omar Fageeri won an Excellence Award (top 30% in the country) and Prabhat Aluri won THIRD PLACE in the country!
In Informative Speaking, Omar Fageeri went to semifinals (top 12 in the country).
We have some exceptional wins in debate as well. In Individual Parliamentary Debate Association style debate, Novice Division, Luke Smith won SECOND SPEAKER. In Junior Division, Omar Fageeri won SEVENTH SPEAKER!
In Novice Division, both Kohl Dybdahl and Luke Scott broke to Octofinals, (top 16 Novice Debaters in the country!)
In Junior Division, Omar Fageeri broke to Quarterfinals, (Top 8 Junior Division Debaters in the country!) Also in Junior Division, Julie Badgley won an Excellence Award (top 30% of debaters in the country).
