Margaret Redsteer gives keynote talk for Annual Symposium on Indigenous Knowledge

IAS faculty member Margaret Redsteer provided the inaugural keynote talk for the Annual Symposium on Indigenous Knowledge at Utah State University on March 19, 2021. The presentation "Earth Science, Indigenous knowledge, and Tribal Sovereignty" discussed how science on Indigenous lands is linked to moving Native communities toward a future of “Free Prior and Informed Consent” that is the hallmark of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous people. The symposium was the first in an annual series of such events on Indigenous knowledge, sponsored by our Mentoring and Encouraging Student Academic Success (MESAS) program to provide support for Indigenous students.
