Jason Hampton builds career in high capacity transit development

Jason Hampton is passionate about transportation efficiency and access. Since graduating from UW Bothell in 2014, he has built his career in transportation management, first working with the Bellevue Downtown Association as their transportation Program Manager, and now at Sound Transit as a High Capacity Transit Development Manager where he oversees planning and stakeholder engagement for a light rail link extension between West Seattle and Ballard.

Hampton says it’s a position he dreamed of as roaming the halls of UW Bothell and that his degree in Law, Economics & Public Policy positioned him for success. Leading an interdisciplinary team of experts in transportation, engineering, architecture, construction, environmental, government and community relations, real estate, operations, project controls, station planning has required Hampston’s total focus. “My job is to make sure they all stay connected, issues and challenges are elevated and daylighted, and deadlines are met,” he says. “By no means do I do this on my own. As you can imagine, a project of this scale requires a sizable team and capable project leadership, which I'm lucky to have. But it is my responsibility to speak the languages of each discipline lead, see issues globally and to make sure the team works as one cohesive unit.”

Hampton frequently reflects on his time in the School of IAS and the knowledge and opportunities he gained by being a part of the school and UW Bothell community. “I'm not only proud to be an IAS alum, but I can't imagine a program that would better prepared me for my work.”
