Kari Lerum elected co-chair of the Seattle LGBTQ commission
IAS faculty member Kari Lerum was recently elected co-chair of the Seattle LGBTQ commission. The commission’s mission is “to effectively address and present concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and transgender citizens of Seattle to the Mayor, City Council, and all City Departments” and to recommend “legislation, policy, programs and budget items to the Mayor, City Council and City departments.” The commission’s 2019-2021 work plan focuses on housing, homelessness, and affordability; healthcare access; and amplifying and responding to community. All of the commission’s current work is explicitly lead with a trans and racial equity lens.
