IAS faculty member Anida Yoeu Ali exhibits the “Buddhist Bug” performance series at Wei-Ling Contemporary in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The exhibition titled “The Buddhist Bug: A Creation Mythology” is on view from 19th June – 18th August 2019 and features large-scale photos, previously commissioned videos, a 60-meter garment installation and a public performance. Ali’s The Buddhist Bug project started in 2009 and has since been exhibited internationally with upcoming exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (Poland), Haus der Kunst (Munich, Germany) and MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum of Chiang Mai, Thailand. The project probes the issues of displacement and belonging of a diasporic person entangled in their own spiritual and cultural turmoil. The show at Wei-Ling Contemporary is the most extensive exhibition of Ali’s iconic series. Press on the exhibition includes a feature in Malaysia’s Star Newspaper, a write up in Blouin Art Info, Plural Art Mag and an in-depth radio interview on BFM 89.9 with host Sharmilla Ganesan.
