Bartha and Burgett facilitate workshop
IAS Director of Graduate Programs Miriam Bartha and Dean Bruce Burgett facilitated a two-day workshop at the University of Iowa on publicly-engaged graduate education. Hosted by the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, the first day of the workshop, “How to Stop Giving Graduate Students Bad Advice,” focused on what faculty members, staff members, and graduate students can stop doing in order to create space for new practices to emerge. The second day, “Why Public Scholarship Matters for Graduate Education – and how to support it at the University of Iowa,” ran a group of faculty members, staff members, graduate students, and administrators through a resource- and values-based design process for a degree, program, or initiative at the University of Iowa.
