Anida Yoeu Ali exhibits in Kuala Lumpur at the inaugural “Democracy In Action” Festival
IAS faculty member Anida Yoeu Ali exhibited photo documentation from her “The Public Square” series, last performed as a 24-hour durational public action in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The exhibition, curated by Intan Rafiza Abu Bakar, brought together artists navigating the arts and activism worlds in an inaugural Democracy Festival program hosted in Kuala Lumpur. The accompanying exhibition “Democracy In Action” featured a group of 21 visual artists, performance artists and artist collectives from South-East Asia at the Blackbox MAP, Publika gallery and was on display from Feb 13 – 17, 2019. Malaysian artists include Ahmad Fuad Osman, Amin Landak, Pangrok Sulap, Shaq Koyok, Sharon Chin, Zunar, while leading regional artists included Anida Yoeu Ali (Cambodia), Arahmaiani (Indonesia), Khai Maew (Thailand), Le Brothers (Vietnam) and Taring Padi (Indonesia).
