Dan Berger: Are Florida prisons suppressing an inmate strike or just lying about it?
IAS faculty member Dan Berger published "Are Florida prisons suppressing an inmate strike or just lying about it?," an op-ed in the Washington Post about a whether the state of Florida is suppressing a strike by prisoners. Called "Operation Push," the strike was supposed to begin on Martin Luther King Day and demanded a series of changes to one of the nation's largest prison systems. Yet prison officials have denied the existence of the strike and limited prisoners' access to communication. "The darkness enveloping American prisons shows how tenuous our nation's democracy has long been," writes Berger.
