Julie Shayne featured in UW Libraries “How I Work Open” project
October 23-27, 2017 was international Open Access Week, a celebration of shared knowledge, open scholarship, and barrier-free research and scholarly publishing. In honor of Open Access Week, UW Libraries assembled an inspiring collection of interdisciplinary voices from across the University of Washington describing faculty and staff experiences with open access and practicing open scholarship and research. This project is called “How I Work Open” and includes posters on display in UW Bothell’s Library lobby, at the Allen Library (Seattle campus), and a series of interviews posted on the UW Libraries’ new open access blog Open @ UW.
In IAS faculty member Julie Shayne’s interview, she discusses her commitment to activist scholarship and the Feminist Community Archive of Washington (FCA-WA) she co-created with UW Bothell librarians and staff. The archive includes interviews and documents from local feminist and gender justice organizations compiled by students in her “Histories and Movements of Gender and Sexuality” course. (The course is BISGWS 302, one of the core GWSS courses and will be offered in winter 2018.)
