Assessing the Impact of Community-Based Learning on Students: The Community Based Learning Impact Scale
IAS faculty members Shauna Carlisle and Keith Nitta, along with Educational Studies faculty member Karen Gourd, co-authored and published “Assessing the Impact of Community-Based Learning on Students: The Community Based Learning Impact Scale (CBLIS)” in the Journal of Service-Learning in Higher Education. This article explores the utility of the CBLIS a 33 item scale for measuring student experiences in community based learning courses. Confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis suggest that the CBLIS is useful instrument for measuring civic engagement, self awareness and critical thinking.
