On-Campus Dining
ASUWB has been involved in the improvement and expansion of on-campus dining opportunities over the years, most notably by serving on the Food & Dining Advisory Committee to provide student input on the services offered on campus. With the opening of the Terrace Dining Pavilion, ASUWB is seeking student feedback to inform our priorities as we shift towards a residential campus. We’re also discussing provision of free utensils, religious dietary labeling (halal, kosher, etc.), and more ways to advocate for student dining needs.
Common Hour
In recent years, ASUWB has surveyed UW Bothell faculty, staff, and students to gauge interest in a one-hour daily period during which no classes will be scheduled to allow for clubs to meet, committees to convene, students to socialize, and more. Going into the 2023 – 2024 academic year, we’re looking to capitalize on this momentum by discussing with administration how it can be implemented as early as the 2024 – 2025 academic year.
Improving Campus Safety
As our residential population expands, ASUWB is seeking to improve the presence of campus safety to meet these new demands. We’re pushing for increased lighting throughout campus and along 110th street, modifications to police presence on campus, the installation of surveillance cameras in parking garages, and we’re meeting with student advocates to discuss concerns surrounding the relationship between UWB and Bothell PD.
Involvement with the Washington Student Association (WSA)
Formed in 1982, the WSA is a lobbying group run by and for students, to amplify their voices in the legislative process for the benefit of public higher education. Advocating for students since 1982. ASUWB has been and continues to be deeply involved with the WSA; this year, we attended the Fall General Assembly (pictured above) to confirm the legislative agenda. WSA will convene again in the Spring to continue its advocative work. Our contribution to the agenda was discounted parking passes for student employees.
Business School Advisory Group
ASUWB has spearheaded efforts to establish a group of Business students who will meet regularly with the School of Business administration to foster an ongoing dialogue that emphasizes student concerns and feedback. This year, a pilot program consisting of business students and Dean Rajib Sanyal has successfully identified multiple areas of improvement. As the advisory group continues its work and looks to implement potential solutions to these issues, ASUWB is looking to establish similar pilot programs in UW Bothell’s other schools to hopefully make this a campus-wide endeavor. For questions, please reach out to our Vice-President, Ahmed Mohamad.
Past Initiatives
Student Senate
As of September 2024, ASUWB amended its bylaws to establish a student senate representing five groups of stakeholders across campus: Residential students, academic schools, commuter students, veteran students, and international students. Applications to serve in the 2024-2025 Senate are open now:
Holly the Husky
Holly is our cheerful UWB mascot, and made history as the University of Washington’s first-ever female mascot! Dedicated to spreading the Husky spirit, she pumps-up community excitement and involvement at campus and community events. Residential Life have adopted Holly the Husky, so questions can be directed to uwbreslife@uw.edu.
Activities and Recreation Center (ARC)
The ARC, which serves as the the hub of student life on campus and packed with amenities and resources, began as an joint ASUWB and Cascadia Student Life initiative in 2008. In 2010, a resolution authorizing funding for the programming and pre-design was passed. After approval by the UW Board of Regents in 2013, construction began the following spring and was completed in the Fall of 2015. In September 2014, ASUWB and Cascadia Student Life surveyed their respective student bodies for naming ideas, ultimately settling on the Activities and Recreation Center.
Student Diversity Center
The Diversity Center, located in UW-173, was advocated for by ASUWB to serve as a safe space for UW Bothell students and faculty of UW Bothell to form connections and host events, as well a support for students under DACA.
