Recycling, Disposal, and Surplus

Surplus

A Surplus Request is submitted to UW Surplus (Seattle Campus) for the purpose of selling or recycling unwanted or unusable items. If your department intends to send items to UW Surplus in Seattle, UW Bothell Facilities provides various Surplus Work Request services to support this process.

There are two categories of Surplus Work Requests based on size and delivery method: Large Surplus Work Requests and Small Surplus Work Requests. If customers need assistance in determining whether their surplus work request is categorized as large or small, they can contact the Warehouse Manager at uwbmail@uw.edu for guidance.

Large Surplus Work Requests involve the pickup of four or more medium to large boxes or other sizable items, such as furniture. To initiate a large request, customers should submit a Surplus Work Request to UWB Facilities. The Events Manager will coordinate with the requester to schedule a date and time for the items to be picked up and delivered to UW Surplus. On the agreed-upon date and time, the UWB Move Team will transport the items to UW Surplus at the Seattle campus. Please note, this is a billable service.

Small Surplus Work Requests For small to medium requests involving 1 to 3 boxes or other inconsequential items, such as office supplies, customers should submit a Surplus Work Request to UWB Facilities. There are two options available for this process:

**Option 1:**UWB Facilities can pick up the items and handle the surplus on the department’s behalf. Please note that this option is a billable service.

**Option 2:** Customers can drop off the items at the Facilities Warehouse, where UWB Facilities will also surplus the items on the department’s behalf. This option is not a billable service.

Before submitting a surplus work request, verify that the item(s) are University of Washington property and can be surplused. Additional information and guidelines are available on the UW Surplus website.

Before delivering or arranging for surplus items to be picked up, please make sure that the items are properly prepared. You can find the Surplus Preparation Guidelines on the UW Surplus website.

If you have questions about the surplus work request process or need assistance in determining which request type is most suitable for your needs, please reach out to the Mail Services Team at uwbmail@uw.edu
