Teaching & Learning Minor

Minor Description

The Teaching & Learning Minor explores how children and adolescents learn in a range of settings, including schools and informal or community contexts. This minor focuses on child and adolescent development, learning theory, and how social factors like systems of inequity shape teaching and learning. Through community-engaged learning, Teaching & Learning minors will have the opportunity to work in schools or community organizations and develop leadership skills to become change agents who advocate for the learning of all young people. 

Please note that minoring in Teaching & Learning does not result in Washington state teacher certification. More information on how to become a teacher can be found here.

Declaring the Minor

Students interested in the Teaching & Learning Minor should meet with their advisor to declare the minor as early as possible. 

Minor Requirements

To complete the Teaching & Learning minor, students must complete 30 credits of Educational Studies coursework.

Course Registration

Some Teaching & Learning Minor courses are restricted to students in SES majors for Registration Period I, but become available to all students from Registration Period II onwards. You can contact the academic advisor for Teaching & Learning Minor for assistance with registration.

Minors may request that Teaching & Learning Minor-related courses from UW Bothell or other colleges/universities that are not on the pre-approved elective lists count toward minor requirements. These requests are considered on a case-by-case basis through the SES Course Petition. Students can submit an SES Petition here.
