Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program at UW Bothell is uniquely designed to situate educators and community workers as change agents in understanding and dismantling inequitable systems, structures, policies, and practices across educational and community contexts.

As an M.Ed. student, you will be provided with the academic foundations needed for career advancement and to make significant contributions to the future of children, youth, and families. Educators are found in every profession — from classrooms to nonprofit organizations, higher education to human resources, and corporate teams. Regardless of the venue, educators are called to raising consciousness about the most critical and pressing issues of our time and inspiring collective change.

This program prioritizes the critical perspectives, voices, and histories of those who have been systematically and historically silenced. Graduates of this program will gain academic foundation in the concepts of institutional inequities, transformational justice practices, leadership and learning theory. Earning your graduate degree with the School of Educational Studies will support your ongoing development along the following career paths: school and district leadership, educational nonprofits, community-based education, educational policy and research, academic advising, student life, curriculum development, adult education, and more!

“This work is built and predicated on community. You must be willing to sit and reflect on your own experiences and synthesize it with the social constructs of the world. This program goes a mile deep and an inch wide. If you are looking for prescriptive ways to “solve” social inequities this isn’t the program for you. If you are however, looking for ways to critically reflect on how you show up in the world, and how you can better support yourself and others— this is a great opportunity that can help you advance your goals.”

Brandon Washington, ’24, M.Ed. alumnus
