Preparing to Teach Hybrid or Online

UW Bothell IT recommends taking these basic steps as part of creating your instructional continuity plan:

  • Tell your students how you plan to communicate with them and how they can contact you in the event of a campus closure (e.g., email or through Canvas).

  • Make sure your syllabus is available through Canvas.

  • Determine how you will share content in the event of a campus closure. We recommend posting content (readings, links, videos) in the Canvas LMS.

  • Determine if and how your students will engage in discussion (e.g., Canvas discussion board, Google doc, email, Zoom).

  • Communicate if and how you will honor your office hours (e.g., email, phone, Zoom).

  • Determine how you will collect, assess, and grade student work (e.g., quizzes/tests in Canvas, assignment submissions in Canvas or by email).

  • Identify, setup, and test your technology tools to conduct class online.

  • View UW Bothell IT’s video tutorials to help you transition to teaching online

  • Review Quality Matters student centered emergency remote instruction checklist
