Late start: Feb. 22, 2018

Due to inclement weather, UW Bothell and Cascadia College will open late today. The campus opens at 10:30 a.m. and classes begin at 11 a.m. Students, staff and faculty are urged to use discretion in deciding whether to travel to campus and should use extreme caution while on the road.

Faculty, staff and students are asked to stay off campus until 10:30 a.m. The intent of a late opening is to delay travel until road conditions improve. Those who have been designated as essential personnel should check with their supervisor.

We are monitoring weather conditions throughout the day. A decision about late afternoon and evening classes will be issued by 2:30 p.m.

ARC is closed

Updated: 9:17 p.m.

Campus safety and our facilities crew responded to complaints of a gas smell in the ARC earlier this evening. The Bothell Fire Department and Puget Sound Energy were notified and the ARC was evacuated as a precaution. Puget Sound Energy identified a leak in a gas valve on the south exterior of the ARC. They have stabilized the leak and will return Thursday morning to do further work. The Bothell Fire Department and PSE have determined there is no threat. The ARC will be closed for the remainder of the evening and is expected to be open as usual Thursday morning.

Three men abandoned a car near the University of Washington Bothell campus around noon Thursday and fled on foot. Bothell police arrested one man and searched with a dog for two others in the wetlands near I-405 and Beardslee Boulevard. The two men not found are believed to have left the area. According to Bothell Police, there is nothing to indicate they pose a threat.

The University sent an alert to campus telling people to stay away from the area during the search, including a wetland trail and the conservatory. Occupants of two University administrative offices in the Beardslee Crossing development were placed on lockdown.

Police believe the two men fled the area. Officers ended the search and an all-clear was issued to the campus around 1 p.m.
