Office of the Title IX Coordinator
Title IX and other federal and state laws prohibit all forms of sex- and gender-based discrimination. Sex- and gender-based discrimination includes sexual harassment, relationship violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, and sexual assault. Title IX also prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, and pregnancy and related conditions.
The Office of the Title IX Coordinator provides leadership and collaboration across all UW campuses and locations as we work collectively to advance gender equity. We do our work through a system of initiatives, programs, and services that focus on achieving equity and parity and both preventing and responding to sex- and gender-based discrimination, harassment, and violence.
Title IX Support
Title IX case managers support individuals navigating UW resources and Title IX processes. They work with students and employees. Title IX case managers will:
- Provide information and resources to individuals who experience sex- and gender-based violence, harassment, and discrimination; they can help you support a friend or colleague, too.
- Help implement supportive measures, like changes in class or work schedules, or mutual restrictions on communication between two individuals.
- Explain the formal complaint option, which is a request for a University investigation.
- Assist students who are pregnant or experiencing related conditions to get support and reasonable adjustments to ensure they are not denied or limited access to their classes or related activities.
Title IX Reporting
UW faculty, staff, and students who are seeking support and options for themselves or others, or want to make the University aware of a Title IX-related concern, can use the online Title IX reporting form. When submitting a report, most individuals can choose to remain anonymous and/or not share others’ names.
Employee Reporting Expectations
Every UW employee can support someone who has experienced sex- or gender-based violence, harassment, or discrimination by reaching out to the Title IX Office for consultation. Depending on your employee role, you have different Title IX reporting obligations.
Confidential Support
The Office of the Title IX Coordinator strives to protect the privacy of individuals involved in Title IX-related matters but is not a confidential resource. If you have experienced sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, or sexual harassment, and are seeking confidential support, consider contacting a university confidential advocate before submitting an online Title IX report.
