Two electrical engineering students, Daniel Schossow and Manuja Sharma, were honored at a recent meeting of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society. The announcement that a third collision of black holes has been detected three billion light years away validates the work of hundreds of scientists, including Joey Shapiro Key, assistant professor of physics at the University of Washington Bothell. The discovery was made using a detector located at Hanford in eastern Washington.

Students build Mars robot for NASA contest
UW Bothell’s Trickfire Robotics team is competing in the NASA Robotic Mining Competition May 22-26 at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The mission is to build a robot to mine ice granules on Mars for water people will need to survive on the Red Planet.
