Internships-Veronica Cheang: Selling tea to China
For an internship course in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, Veronica Cheang was a marketing intern with World Trade Center Tacoma. She conducted research for a company that wanted to sell tea to China, the world’s largest tea exporter. It was a challenge, she says.

Native Girls Code, helping diversify STEM
After completing her community psychology degree with a human rights minor at the University of Washington Bothell, Shawn Peterson created a way to combine her education with her passion. She helped start Native Girls Code with the goal of introducing indigenous teen girls to opportunities in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Aaron Yared takes a 3rd place in debate nationals
A member of the University of Washington Bothell Speech and Debate Team, Aaron Yared, took a third place in the Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Speech and Debate Tournament. The junior in law, economics and public policy won third place in the Novice Division International Public Debate Association style debate during the completion over spring break in Boise, Idaho.

University of Washington Bothell commencement speaker is NFL draftee, astronaut Leland Melvin
Leland Melvin was drafted in the National Football League and went on to become an astronaut, but only after overcoming injury with a perseverance he’ll describe as the commencement speaker for the University of Washington Bothell’s 2017 graduating class. Melvin will speak in front of graduates, family and friends at Safeco Field. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. June 13.
