Butch de Castro, Academy of Nursing fellow
Butch de Castro, associate professor in the School of Nursing and Health Studies, has been selected as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. De Castro hopes to use his selection to continue advancing policies that address health disparities – the disproportionate burden of disease and illness among disadvantaged communities.

Women dominating IMD program
For the second straight year, women lead in the number of the students admitted to the popular Interactive Media Design (IMD) major at University of Washington Bothell. Out of 32 admits for next fall, 20 are female and 12 are male. Interactive Media Design adviser Keiko Miyamoto said the first two cohorts in the two-year program that started in 2013 were dominated by male students.

Business school accreditation extended for UW Bothell; AACSB seal earned by fewer than 5 percent of business schools worldwide
University of Washington Bothell’s School of Business has maintained its accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Fewer than 5 percent of the business schools in the world are accredited by AACSB, the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools.

A funny thing happens in the Bothell Youth Court. The “ultimate jury of your peers” gains from the process as much as the teens who come in with traffic tickets. University of Washington Bothell names Monroe Schools Superintendent Fredrika Smith the 2016 Distinguished Alumna of the Year
University of Washington Bothell has named Monroe Schools Superintendent Fredrika Smith the 2016 Distinguished Alumna of the Year. Smith, who goes by “Deka,” earned her bachelor’s degree in the liberal studies program in 1994 and reconnected with the University as a lecturer six years ago in the Leadership Development for Educators master’s program.

Two military veterans and a social justice organizer are graduating from the University of Washington Bothell with the highest honors in the class of 2016. Army veteran Justin Thompson received the President’s Medal, which recognizes a distinguished academic record.

A team co-led by a University of Washington Bothell student Adam Zhu won a $2,500 award in the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship business plan competition. The Aquapel team won the Smukowski Family Best Sustainable Advantage award that goes to the best sustainable product at the UW’s Foster School of Business competition.
