Newman Civic Fellowship
As a Campus Compact member institution, UW Bothell’s chancellor has the opportunity each year to nominate a student for the Newman Civic Fellowship, a year-long program that recognizes and supports student public problem solvers. Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change—creating a network of connected and engaged student leaders who can support one another in making positive change
Eligibility
UW Bothell graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. Students must have at least one academic year of their education at UW Bothell remaining at the date of nomination so that they are enrolled as a student for the full duration of the fellowship (September – May).
Nomination procedure
Students who are nominated (or who self-nominate) for the Student Civic Leadership Award will automatically be considered for the Newman Civic Fellowship if they meet the eligibility requirements.
Criteria for selection
A student is nominated for the fellowship by the chancellor based on their potential for public leadership and their work with communities. Newman Civic Fellows are students who:
- Engage in collaborative action with others from campus or from surrounding communities in order to create long-term social change.
- Take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization.
- Demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement.
