Humanity 2050: Course of the Future
a Discovery Core Experience
BCORE 107 (Social Sciences). This a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course — meaning our students will interact with students from another institution.
About This Course
We live in a world of ever accelerating change in culture, technology, climate, the biosphere, international relationships, human well-being – you name it. Where are the trends taking us? How different will our world be in 2050? Just what controls our societal trajectory and future prospects?
What Will We Explore?
Via this course you will explore different ways to investigate those questions, peering through lenses like future scenarios, environmental ethics, climate modeling, and fictional narratives. Along the way we’ll learn about the strengths and limitations of interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to research and problem solving.
Why Should I Take This Course?
By the end of the course, you should have a much better handle on the possible and plausible outcomes for civilization in 2050 and what you think needs to happen between now and then to ensure that humanity and biodiversity (and you!) thrive together for the foreseeable future.
What Else Makes This Course Unique?
One way we will explore our future prospects is by sharing several learning activities and a project with students at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia. Accordingly, that makes BCORE 107B a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course. We shall leverage the added diversity in perspectives to arrive at a more culturally aware understanding of the course learning objectives, our world, and our place in it.
