New dean appointed to School of Educational Studies
BOTHELL, Washington -- Ed Buendia has been appointed dean of the School of Educational Studies at University of Washington Bothell. Buendia takes over Aug. 1, after current dean Bradley Portin goes on sabbatical. Buendia has been at the University of Utah at Salt Lake City since 1997, most recently as chair of the Department of Education.

University of Washington Bothell has named Monroe Schools Superintendent Fredrika Smith the 2016 Distinguished Alumna of the Year. Smith, who goes by “Deka,” earned her bachelor’s degree in the liberal studies program in 1994 and reconnected with the University as a lecturer six years ago in the Leadership Development for Educators master’s program.

UW Bothell lecturer Keya Sen awarded Fulbright grant for public health research in India, China, Bangladesh
University of Washington Bothell lecturer Keya Sen has received a Fulbright Global Scholar Award to conduct public health research in India, China and Bangladesh. Her project is based on research she began in 2014 at UW Bothell on the pathogen campylobacter carried by crows that roost in the campus wetlands. The bacteria can cause illness. A microbiologist, Sen explores the crow's role at the genetic level.
