A partnership between the University of Washington Bothell School of Business and the Muckleshoot Tribal College graduated its first operations management certificate class on Aug. 25.
The class consisted of 13 Muckleshoot tribal members and another local patron. The certificate program was created to offer professional development in Auburn. Classes were conducted at the tribal college on the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation.
The 10-week program, taught by UW Bothell faculty, built operations management skills through four community-based projects proposed by students:
- Documenting the process for the tribal housing benefit for Muckleshoot elders and their families.
- Exploring the need for an animal welfare center and organizing a reservation paws and claws resource committee.
- Identifying time management practices for household chores and organic materials for cleaning supplies.
- Examining opportunities and funding for an Enumclaw Plateau farmers market.
The UW Bothell operations management faculty is planning the next program at the Muckleshoot Tribal College. The Certificate in Operations Management builds skills in managing projects, optimizing business processes and making decisions.
The faculty is ready to partner with other communities and organizations for on-site certificate programs in project management, data analytics and business process improvement. Committed to access and engagement, the faculty uses real-world projects for hands-on learning.
